What do you want to know?  Here are a 16 quick Google search tips (plus one for fun) to help you find precisely what you’re looking for faster.

Search Social Media

Put @ in front of a word to search social media. For example: @twitter.

Search for a Price

Put in front of a number. For example: camera $400.

Search Hashtags

Put in front of a word. For example: #throwbackthursday

Exclude Words from Your Search

Put - in front of a word you want to leave out. For example, jaguar speed -car

Search for an Exact Match

Put a word or phrase inside quotes. For example, "tallest building".

Search for Wildcards or Unknown Words

Put a * in your word or phrase where you want to leave a placeholder. For example, "largest * in the world".

Search Within a Range of Numbers

Put .. between two numbers. For example, camera $50..$100.

Combine Searches

Put "OR" between each search query. For example, marathon OR race.

Search for a Specific Site

Put "site:" in front of a site or domain. For example, site:youtube.com or site:.gov

Do Math in Your Search Box

Enter a basic calculation or a query in words (“what is 3 times 7”, or “20% of 892).

Convert Measures

Enter basic information (temperature, currency, light years, etc.) and hit enter. 

Define Words

Use either the define: or definition: qualifier and type your word.

Track Packages

Paste the tracking number into search and Google will recognize it and provide a link to the tracking page.

Find Flight Times

Enter your flight's number and Google will return a card with updated flight times as well as terminal/gate information.

Check the Weather  

Search "weather" and Google will present an interactive card with weather information courtesy of The Weather Channel for your IP location. Or, search weather + [any location] for a specific place.

Find Local Attractions

Search [city name] attractions to prompt a long info card with local attractions and relevant images for wherever you are.

Easter Eggs

These are goodies that Google engineers have created just for fun.

... "askew" will tilt your screen; anything you search after that will bring it back to level
... "blink html" will cause the word "blink" to blink anywhere on the screen
... "do a barrel roll" or "z or r twice" will cause the screen to do a 360

… "flip a coin" prompts a card with an animated coin flip, and "roll a die" prompts a card that randomly rolls a standard six-sided die

... "Google in 1998" will make the page appear as Google did in 1998
... "zerg rush" will cause a bunch of Google O's to attack the screen, which you can fight off by clicking on them.
